La Scarlatte (Pauline Teunissen) is a freelance illustrator, living in Haarlem, the Netherlands. Her very delicate pencil and ink drawings are almost always covered with flora and fauna. By blending textures and organic shapes she creates a beautiful combination that moves rhythmically and sometimes repeats as a pattern.
Her work embraces every organism and object, it offers a place for people to wander carefree spaces (where even death is beautiful) and tales of forgotten worlds can be discovered.
Inspired by natural science, folk tales and the (Dutch) Golden Age, she is often found in the city, the zoo and the botanical gardens, where she draws an ever growing collection of animals, people and plants. But her heart truly lies in the dunes and woods between the sea and the city, the perfect place to roam and explore.

"The detail is amazing and your creativity is out of this world! We were so grateful for the beautiful assets and loved how it all turned out. It truly made this collection unique and I know it will stand out to our customers!" - kendrascott.com
“ Your illustration style is perfect for this project, which is rooted in vintage botanical illustration. We are looking for a modern and sophisticated style, and your work helps us to achieve this. Thank you so much for all of the beautiful artwork! It was truly such a pleasure working together on this collection.” - Partylite
"It was a pleasure working with Pauline. She has an excellent notion of design and colors. We were spectacularly impressed with the murals she did for our salons. She met all timelines and requests :-) I would highly recommend her for art projects. " - Bridget Rutherford, Wax Revolution
"While being undeniable beautiful, the underlying foundation of strong drawing throughout her work gives Pauline’s illustrations and patterns a complimenting boldness too. Strong shapes and cutting blocks of colour provide a balance to the inherent delicacy that comes with her considered pencil work." - Ape on the moon
